SIL FAQs for Families & Referrers
Find answers to common questions about eligibility, funding, and how we support independence.
What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS support where we provide help with daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, and personal care. It is designed to help you live as independently as possible while building your skills in a shared or individual home setting.
Who is eligible for SIL funding?
Participants aged 18 and over with 'Assistance in Daily Living' in their NDIS plans are generally eligible. The NDIA determines if SIL is a 'reasonable and necessary' support based on your goals and functional needs.
What is the difference between SIL and SDA?
SIL refers to the support services and staff provided within a home (person-to-person care), whereas Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to the physical building or bricks-and-mortar housing designed for people with high support needs.
Can I choose my housemates?
Absolutely. We prioritise compatibility through our transition process. We ensure participants have similar interests, ages, and lifestyles to foster a harmonious and supportive living environment.
What does a typical day in SIL look like?
Every day is different and tailored to your goals. It includes morning routines, personal care, preparing healthy meals, attending community activities, work, or study, and relaxation time in the evening with support always available.
